Team News

India

Shikhar Dhawan will make his return to the playing XI after not taking part in the T20I series. Rohit Sharma also found form in the final game of the T20I series. India will be hoping that Sharma can get them off to good start in the opening game of the series. Besides Rohit Sharma, Indian Captain Virat Kohli has been premier batsman in limited-overs cricket for past five years.

Ambati Rayudu has shown consistency with the bat over the past six months. India might have solved their middle-order problem with wicket-keeper MS Dhoni and Kedhar Jadhav scoring runs in Australia. Vijay Shankar might be first-choice all-rounder in the absence of Hardik Pandya, who has been ruled out of the one-day series due to injury.

In the bowling department, Mohammad Shami might take the new-ball with Jaspreet Bumrah for this game. Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav is the most lethal spin combination in world cricket at the moment. The duo have picked up wickets in the middle overs and allowed India to dominate the proceedings in limited-overs cricket.

Australia

The visitors will be confident of doing well after their triumph in the T20I series. Captain Aaron Finch will need to get runs for the side. He will under pressure for his place in the XI due to lack of runs over the past six months. D’Arcy Short will be slotted at the top of the innings after doing well in the recent concluded Big Bash League.

Usman Khuwaja also needs to produce runs in the upcoming one-day series in order to retain his place in the side. He has struggled to convert his starts into big scores. Peter Handscomb has done well in the middle-order for Australia in limited-overs cricket. He certainly is a good player of spin and has knack of keeping the scoreboard ticking in the middle overs of the innings.

Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis and wicket-keeper Alex Carey are players that can certainly score quickly at the back end of the innings. Maxwell was standout performer for Australia in the two-match T20I series. He also smashed a splendid century to help Australia win their maiden T20I series against India.

Jhye Richardson, Jason Behrendorff and Pat Cummins are premier pace options for this one-day series. Nathan Lyon is the lone spinner included in the playing XI for this game.
