The duo has sustained injuries and are doubtful for one-day series against Zimbabwe
Bangladesh have suffered a setback of sorts as Mushfiqur Rahim and Captain Mashrafe Mortaza might miss the upcoming home against Zimbabwe due to injuries. The side has already lost Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal due to injuries. Bangladesh Cricket Board face a daunting of selecting players that will fill void left by premier players like Rahim and Mortaza.
All four players have been instrumental to Bangladesh’s success in recent times and also played a pivotal role in helping Bangladesh qualify for the finals of Asia Cup. Bangladesh Cricket Board Medical chief, Debashish Chowdhury said that Mashrafe Mortaza has sustained a serious finger injury and might skip the one-day series.
Mortaza sustained the injury during Bangladesh’s game against Pakistan in the Super 4 stage of Asia Cup. Debashish Chowdhury said that Mortaza might be out for at least three weeks and will undergo rehabilitation process to regain full fitness. Bangladesh Captain will be trying hard to get fit in time for the coming fixtures of the cricketing season.
Mushfiqur Rahim suffered from a rib injury during training camp before the start of Asia Cup and might out for at least six weeks. Rahim was the star player for Bangladesh and scored to close to 300 runs in the competition. He played a leading role in helping Bangladesh qualify for the finals of Asia Cup. Bangladesh once again fell short of winning their maiden Asia Cup title but it was Rahim who produced breathtaking performances with the bat to help Bangladesh register victories over Sri Lanka and Afghanistan
The opening game of the one-day series between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe will be played on 21st October. The selection committee will announce the one-day squad in the coming week. Shakib Al Hasan has undergone a surgery on his finger and is going through a rehabilitation process. Tamim Iqbal might also undergo a surgery given the extent of the injury on his wrist.
