Bangladesh go 1-0 up in three match series with 28-run win on Sunday
Imrul Kayes scored a breathtaking century to help Bangladesh in registering a comfortable 28-run win against Zimbabwe in the first ODI of the three-match series in Dhaka on Sunday.
The day started with the home side winning the toss and opting to bat first in good batting conditions.However, that decision seemed to backfire early on as the hosts lost two wickets at the score of 17 in the six overs.A 49-run partnership for the third-wicket between Imrul Kayes and wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim brought some stability in the innings.
But once again, flurry of wickets brought the visitors right back in the game as the home side was reduced to 139 for six in the 30th over.From there on, Bangladesh made a stunning comeback, courtesy 127-run partnership between Imrul Kayes and Mohammad Saifuddin, which helped the team in posting a respectable total of 271-8 in their allotted 50 overs.
Imrul Kayes finished the innings with the top score of 144 off 140 balls with the help of 13 fours and six sixes, whereas Saifuddin scored 50 off 69 balls with the help of three fours and one six.
For the visitors, pacer Kyle Jarvis was the star of the show with the ball as he claimed figures of four for 37 in nine overs, whereas pacer Tendai Chatara claimed figures of three for 55.
In reply, Zimbabwe had a decent start with 48-run opening partnership, but after the fall of first wicket, the Hamilton Masakadza-led unit kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and managed to post 243 for the loss of nine wickets in their allotted 50 overs.
Sean Williams finished the innings with the top score of 50 off 58 balls with the help of five fours and one six.
For Bangladesh, off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz was the best bowler on show as he claimed figures of three for 46 in his 10 overs.
